a week of thanksgiving...day 2

Posted by Brook in VideoPersonalCreativity

I realize that I missed my "day two" of a week-long series here at two10eleven. I had a very early morning this morning as I had to run to the hospital to be with one of our fathers from the church as he was having an emergency quadruple bypass.  I never knew 2:45 AM could roll around so early...

So, I'll cut right to the chase.  For day two I am thankful for music.  Isn't it amazing how God has created us with the creativity of music making and enjoying.  There is just unreal about the way music can connect with one's innermost self and soul.  To stop and think about it truly amazes me.

What is it about music?  Some like only a certain genre while others enjoy most of it all.  I am one of those.  I tend to like them all...  Country, rap, classical, West African, Thai, reggae, jazz, R&B, "Christian" and non...

For me there is something magnificent about the way I can see God, feel God and hear God through a lyric or score.  And for that, I am thankful...

I'll leave you with this clip of an Arlo Guthrie song I heard yesterday while driving home from my dad's house for Thanksgiving dinner.  Yes, I even like the creativity of this song...

So, what are you thankful for today?

surfin' dem' 'nets again

Posted by Brook in VideoTechRandomness

Alright, I'm back.  We've been sans-internet for a little more than a week here at the house.  Our beautiful child (i.e. puppy) happened to destroy our last internet device.  Lovely!  So, anyways, we're back in action and running with the fastest internet you can get living in the middle of nowhere-- satellite internet.  But, anyways, enough of that...  I will invite you back around here with this.

the process

First off, this comes straight from Brad. I've sat in one-too-many (semi)professional creative meetings where it was obvious that what the client (read superiors) had no idea what they were talking about. But, as any decent designer, mo-graph artist or illustrator will do, we jump through the hoops.

Dance monkeys, dance....

watch rugby

Posted by Brook in VideoRandomness

So, the internet around here has been broke. Is it working on your neck of the woods? Living in the middle of no where really limits the options for high speed internet. Heck, I had it so bad that I actually went my mom's house to use her dial-up when our wireless dsl service started freaking out. I would have signed up for dial-up almost a week ago, but Sara and I use cell phones rather than a home phone. Hard to have dial-up via a cell phone.

Now I'm back in business. After calling different ISP's for more than a week I finally made a call to our business rep at Centennial Wireless and got a USB air card. You know, one of those that allows for internet anywhere. It's definitely not DSL...but it's definitely better than nothing.

Meanwhile, I've been watching Rugby. I don't know what it is about the sport, but I love it. I played a bit with the Men's Rugby Club in Fort Wayne when I was in college. We played in Indy, Cincinnati, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a ton of fun. I have no formal training in the sport but I seriously think I like it more than American Football and, since my internet has been crapping out lately, I've been watching reruns on Setanta Sports (channel 406 on Dish Network).

I was watching a match yesterday and I realized one thing I missed having not been following the sport as closely as I once was... The Haka.

The Haka is performed by New Zealand before every international match. And, well, it scares me. But you can't deny the passion these men have for the game...and the definitely are MEN. I just watched a guy take some cleats to the forehead only to be taped up and playing within two minutes... gameplay never stopped!

So, do you like rugby? Or any other "strange" sports? How about this. What would you do without internet for two weeks?

4Before :: Creative Chaos 8

Posted by Brook in VideoCreative ChaosChurch

Loswhit has been doing this thing called Creative Chaos for a while now. I'm yet to join in because of fears of coming across as uncreative, unable or just plain dumb! Ah, but what the heck... why not?

If you are from Olive Branch then you have already seen and heard The 4Before. If not, let me explain.

I have visited North Point Community Church on several occasions in recent months. And, of course, as a Director of Family Ministries, I was amazed at KidStuf and UpStreet. But, as a tech-freak, I was knocked off my feet by their Ten Before. I knew right away that it was something that I wanted to produce for our church.

By doing the announcements before the service via video, we are able to showcase what's coming up, how people can get involved and reinforce who we are and what we do as a church. Our first installment was run two weeks ago and went off great! And, though it is a lot of work to keep up on, I can't see us ever going back. It's a fun, engaging way to invite people to your worship experience and gives them the much needed information about how they can get involved in a creative way.

As I type this I am taking a break from some After Effects projects for this weekend's 4Before and I believe this one will be better than the last. The video will be posted here shortly...as soon as I finalize the licensing of some of the audio tracks used.

Oh, and if you are looking to spark some creativity for yourself or others, check out what others are posting over at Ragamuffin Soul.

EDIT :: Here's the link to the 4Before we've been working on. Check it out here.

Brother's got pipes...

Ok, so there is this show in the UK called Britian's Got Talent. I never really got into the American version of the show, and I didn't get into this one either. But this is just flat good...

Growing Up...

I came across this via CJ's blog. How true is this... But then again, what do I do with the fact that I am done breast feeding and pacifier-ing? Does that mean I am "all grown-ed up"?
