another wedding coming up...

Posted by Brook in Personal

This Summer has been one of weddings galore! Sara has had a couple that she has been in. I have a couple that I have been in. This weekend will be yet another one for me as I head to South-central Indiana for another wedding.

I've figured it out, my wife has worked in a deli this summer. And, well, all of her paychecks will be going toward gas, dresses and tuxes for our many weddings this season. How awesome is that?! We love each of the members in these weddings, but dang, are we getting hit hard! Thanks for your willingness to work, babe!

While I'm gone, please swing by my wife's blog and encourage her to post an update about her recent trip to Jamaica. She's got some great stories and photos to share... If you could do that for me while I'm away, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Sara, come home!!!

 Sara and I

My senior pastor told me to take my vitamins this afternoon as Sara is finally coming home from Jamaica. She's been there for 10 days. The house is clean...laudnry done...and bed is made. My kid brother helped me get the place in order (between Mario Kart Wii games).

T-minus 4 hrs. and counting!

Thailand Updates

Posted by Brook in Thailand

Tonight I worked on a mail form that will allow you, the reader, to stay up-to-date on what Sara and I are up to on the Thailand front.

I realize that some of you may not know my wife and I's heart for Thailand, and if that that be you, please check out our Thailand page. We are ramping up our efforts in returning to Thailand for "many years" (read 10+) to be part of what God is doing there and help start a church-plant. Our hopes are to being moving to Thailand in just about a year from now.

We've be raising money, prayer support and working through the many different hoops we need to jump through as we partner with our denomination and OMF.

So, if you are interested in keeping up-to-date with our Thailand happenings, beyond our blog posts, please head to the Thailand page here at two10eleven.com...scroll to the bottom and fill out the form.

And above all, we could really use your prayers...

the process

First off, this comes straight from Brad. I've sat in one-too-many (semi)professional creative meetings where it was obvious that what the client (read superiors) had no idea what they were talking about. But, as any decent designer, mo-graph artist or illustrator will do, we jump through the hoops.

Dance monkeys, dance....

The Bachelor :: Lazy Photographer

Posted by Brook in PersonalLazy Photographer

I Hate MorningsI haven't really mentioned it yet around here...but, for the past 6 days I have been without my wife. She is helping lead a mission trip to Jamaica with the Youth Group from our church. Now, this is the first time that we have been apart for more than a few days.

I'm alive...and from what little I know about the trip, so is she. But, I have realized that being a bachelor is over-rated. Our house is a wreck (cause Sara would often pick up little things after me). I haven't been eating well (partly cause I'm lazy and partly because Sara would force me). I've been working crazy-long hours (cause sitting and watching TV every night is boring). I'm going insane (cause I have no one to talk to except a dog).

I've sometimes wondered what life would be like had I not met Sara. What would I be doing? Where would I be? But, being a married bachelor is boring.

Although, our small bed does seem larger without another person in it...

lazy photographer :: happy birthday, sis...

Posted by Brook in Lazy Photographer

Tuesday was my sis's birthday. She's the bomb. Currently she is in my wife's small group on a mission trip to Jamaica. But, she is still the bomb. Last Fall we went out a few times and I taught her a thing or two about photography and let her borrow my old Canon 35mm camera. We had a blast. At the end of the year, come to find out, she won the Photograhpy Student of the Year at our local High School; thus, showing that, despite my best effort, she has an eye for the game. Congrats, sis, and happy belated birthday. You are a sweetheart... Now, stay away from that tool-bag you are dating ;-)

btw: The hand choking her to death was her own. Since I am SOOO good at photography myself, I captured her at the most akward moment I could...just like any good brother would do ;-)

balding...

Posted by Brook in Randomness

I'm not turned off at all towards going bald and I guess my mom was right about me wearing my baseball cap all the time. The state of the top of my head occurred to me most recently after playing an afternoon of cornhole and volleyball out in the hot sun. Yes, it's true... For the first time in my life I got sunburnt on THE TOP of my head. Yesterday and today my skin is peeling up top there...next to my widow's peak.

Today, I went an got my usual hair cut. A new gal was working and we began making small talk. She noticed my peeling head skin and I commented on how she may as well just shave it all off... You know, Greg Qualls' style. Then, I popped the question. I asked her how old she thought I looked given my receding hairline. And, drum roll please, she said I looked "I dunno... 35 or 40." 35 or 40? 35 or 40! Dang girl... I'm not even twenty-five!

So, here's to losing hair, looking older and wearing ball caps... What about you? Have you still got hair?

to mac or not to mac

Posted by Brook in Tech

Now isn't that the question! I've been a PC guy for my entire life (aside from an Apple IIe w/ Oregon Trail and a Macintosh Performa for bit at home). But, the more I deal with PC (which I love for its plethora of software) and motion graphics, photography, video editting and capturing, the more I want to get a Mac. Not to mention that they are just plain sexy...

This may just put me over the edge...

Not that it will be powerful enough to edit video and run After Effects...but, how freakin' cool is that? It's kind of like a more powerful, larger, sexier iPhone.

Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured multi-touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion's haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at "low" price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. ... App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.
(ht: gizmodo)

I've wanted an iPhone...but can't get reception out here in nowhere. Was going to buy an unlocked iPhone and use my SIM card in it...but don't have a Mac. Was going to buy a Mac Book Pro...but can't convince my wife...yet. Whether you are a PC person, Mac man/woman or just plain indifferent... Apple has got it going on...

get your read on

Posted by Brook in Books

Made to StickI enjoy reading. This is truly something new to me as for the better part of my teenage years the only reason I wanted to read was to finish a book (I have a thing for completing something). I generally try to read a book or two a month. The two months have been rough as summer has set in...as has the remodel at church... both of which ask for much of my "spare" time... as if a Pastor ever had any...

I've really enjoyed this book. Nearly everything I do involves moving people in some sort of a direction. This book looks closely at "sticky" ideas and how they are formed, organized and presented. It has been a great help in figuring out how to form the ideas I present... ideas which I believe are of great value.

I'm nearly done with it (one chapter left) and am looking for another good read. So, what do you suggest? Are you a reader?
