Mario Kart Wii

Posted by Brook in Randomness

Mario Kart Wii I sold my Wii to a buddy of mine about 7 months ago after having it sit underneath my TV collecting dust. I paid an outrageous amount of money to get it in the first place. I was never a big console gamer. I always played my friend's games at their houses growing up, but I only ever owned a SEGA back in the day. But, when the Wii came out...I wanted it. I made an impulse buy...and for several months we had people over to play Wii Tennis tournaments, Sara and I played regularly, and I played Tiger Woods Golf all the time... ...and then it just sat there...

This Fall we, Olive Branch, will be kicking off a new Family/Children's ministry, and with that will be a room for kid's of parents who are volunteering but have already been to UpStreet. In this room will be games, computers, books, fun, laughter, etc... Oh, and a Wii.

Walking through Wal-Mart the other day I stopped and asked the Electronics Lady if Wii's were still hard to come by...I hadn't ever seen one on the shelf... She said they had some in the back...just took them off the truck. So...I bought it. And with that, I got Mario Kart Wii...which absolutely rocks! Being a Mario Kart feign growing up, this hits the spot. It's a bit different than the original N64 version, but still rocks in concept, updated graphics, and of course, handling. Too much fun...

Tuesday already?

Posted by Brook in RandomnessPersonal

Where has the week gone?  I realize that I have missed the first work day of the week traveling back from PA, but c'mon, seriously...where has it gone?

In less than a month we will be producing the KidStuf program start-to-finish here at OBCOG.  And, while that is totally exciting for a lot of us, it is also extemely stressful.  I've found myself somewhere between confused,  overwhelmed and excited for the last day and a half....   And, this probably exactly where God would love to have me...

So, anyways, I'm alive.  Oh, and I bought a Wii tonight...  Gotta love that.

Leaving, Jet Plane, PA...Part Deux

Posted by Brook in Personal

So, today was a nasty day of travel. After going to bed at 1:30 this morning, we woke up at about 4 AM to get our showers and finish packing. We were on the road by 5:15 and at the airport by 6:30...an hour and a half before our scheduled departure. This is when we found out our flight would be delayed due to unscheduled maintenance, which is a really encouraging thing to think about when you are preparing to fly on that very plane being maintenanced.

So, by now I'm upset. The delay would force us to miss our connecting flight and will push our arrival into Harrisburg back to 4PM...two hours later than originally planned...AND the exact time that we needed to be 25 miles away speaking at a mission conference. But, hey, thus is life...things happen...

We finally boarded our first flight and soon found ourselves waiting in Detroit for 4 hours until our new connecting flight left. By the way, we arrived in Detroit only 5 minutes too late to make our originally planned flight. Awesome.

We finally made it to Harrisburg and were hustling to get out bags and get the rental car so we could get the conference. That's when my bag came up missing. It wasn't there. Gone. Nadda. Zilch. Nothing. Awesome.

But what was lost was soon found in the lost luggage office. Somehow my bag had made the originally scheduled connecting flight and had arrived in Harrisburg some two hours early. How? I have no flippin' idea! But, there, we had it.

So, we ran...fast...to AVIS to pick up our rental car. That's when the kind lady told me the system was denying my out-of-state driver's license. Luckily, she said all she had to do was call their security office to get the code cleared. Sweet! I thought I was about to have a Loswhit! Soon the AVIS lady's demeanor changed when she told me that their security office was closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Awesome.

I kindly told her to get me a bicycle built for two, or something...anything...so we could be on our way. And, miraculously, their computer system somehow allowed my wife's out-of-state driver's license to go through. I dunno...don't ask. Thanks God!

We got to the mission conference and changed in the restrooms...finishing just in time for dinner. We had missed the first two breakout sessions, but we were finally there. I'll post more on how the meetings are going tomorrow...

So there...that's been my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad travel day. But we are here...and the bed is calling. As is my wife.... ....gotta go!

Leaving, Jet Plane, PA....

Posted by Brook in ThailandPersonalChurch

Alright!  Sara and I are gone for the weekend.  We'll be speaking to new people, new churches and new pastors about our passion and plans for Thailand.  I sometimes find it difficult to balance the "here and now" with the "someday soon."  God has given us this great passion and desire to serve in Thailand, and truly trust His guiding us back there soon.  At the same time, I sat at a computer all day working in After Effects, I'm invested in the church I currently work in, and I'm in the middle of a complete overhaul of our children and family ministries (which will take place this Summer).  I'm excited about all of these things.  From Thailand, to After Effects, to Family Ministry.  But, how can one balance it all?

We have this great opportunity this weekend to get away and talk to new people about what "fills us up" more than anythings else...serving in Thailand.  Thus, we are taking it.  At the same time, it was a total pain to plan out the usual Sunday morning with our not being there.  And, seemingly, it may only get worse.  As we get closer and closer to returning to Thailand,  the tension from trying to be in two places, and roles, at once sky-rockets.

God, give us a peace about where you have currently called us and help us to finish strong in our roles at this church.  At the same time, give us also a peace about where you are taking us in the not-too-distant future.  And in all things guide our steps...

4Before :: Creative Chaos 8

Posted by Brook in VideoCreative ChaosChurch

Loswhit has been doing this thing called Creative Chaos for a while now. I'm yet to join in because of fears of coming across as uncreative, unable or just plain dumb! Ah, but what the heck... why not?

If you are from Olive Branch then you have already seen and heard The 4Before. If not, let me explain.

I have visited North Point Community Church on several occasions in recent months. And, of course, as a Director of Family Ministries, I was amazed at KidStuf and UpStreet. But, as a tech-freak, I was knocked off my feet by their Ten Before. I knew right away that it was something that I wanted to produce for our church.

By doing the announcements before the service via video, we are able to showcase what's coming up, how people can get involved and reinforce who we are and what we do as a church. Our first installment was run two weeks ago and went off great! And, though it is a lot of work to keep up on, I can't see us ever going back. It's a fun, engaging way to invite people to your worship experience and gives them the much needed information about how they can get involved in a creative way.

As I type this I am taking a break from some After Effects projects for this weekend's 4Before and I believe this one will be better than the last. The video will be posted here shortly...as soon as I finalize the licensing of some of the audio tracks used.

Oh, and if you are looking to spark some creativity for yourself or others, check out what others are posting over at Ragamuffin Soul.

EDIT :: Here's the link to the 4Before we've been working on. Check it out here.

Brother's got pipes...

Posted by Brook in VideoRandomness

Ok, so there is this show in the UK called Britian's Got Talent. I never really got into the American version of the show, and I didn't get into this one either. But this is just flat good...

Sunny skies and growing grass...

Posted by Brook in RandomnessPersonal

So, today I finally decided to wrassle...yes, I said "wrassle," my growing grass into submission for it's first trimming of the season. There are a few things that I realized from this:

My grass was taller than I had thought in places. I killed the push mower on the "ditch from Hades" more than 7 times. Could have been because I couldn't hear the engine whining from beneath my noise-cancelling iPod earbuds. But, I'll blame it on the length of grass.
It was hot today.
I'm more out of shape than I thought I was. Nothing like huffing and puffing pushing a mower through jungle-like grass for more than an hour... If nothing else, that ditch may whip me into shape yet.

All of that work just to keep a yard looking decent. Where did that come from anyways? I think about how many hours I have ahead of me this Spring, Summer and Fall of mowing, raking and mulching...just to keep my yard looking nice. Is it just that we need something to do outside? Don't get me wrong, there are days I actually look forward to working out in the yard. The sunshine...the smell of hog barns...the rural Indiana afternoons.... Ahhhhh!

I just don't understand it...

Saturday's wrenches...

Posted by Brook in Personal

I just spent the better part of the day turning wrenches in our garage prepping our mower of the upcoming season. Sara and I were kind enough to receive the mower for free from my father last year. Our yard is just big enough to not want to push mow...and just small enough to not explain buying a new mower...especially with our Thailand plans.

But, with a free mower, comes a lot of up-keep and maintenance. Blessings to my wife who rant into town to pick up some oil and gas for me as I stayed home and worked in the garage. I felt like a real man. I'm not sure why this happens, but for some reason...a day spent lifting, turning, lifting, spinning and cleaning in the garage brings out an inner source of manhood that is seldom seen...it seems.

Anyway, it was an alright day. Sara is outside finishing up planting some flowers and I believe we will be looking up a video to watch tonight here shortly. All in prep for a busy Sunday morning at OBCOG.

Growing Up...

I came across this via CJ's blog. How true is this... But then again, what do I do with the fact that I am done breast feeding and pacifier-ing? Does that mean I am "all grown-ed up"?
