I recently posted the Twitter / Facebook message above in hopes to find an answer to an issue I’ve been having since moving into our new place here in Bangkok. I literally spend 5 minutes in the shower or helping do the dishes and my hands wind up looking like I just swam a triathlon in January…
I really don’t know what is going on. Could it be this country boy’s reaction to Bangkok’s Chlorinated water? An allergy of some sort? Fungal infection? Leprosy?
I’m not ruling out any possibilities at this point. Still, I thought it best to post up on my blog in case some SE Asian, missionary doctor happens to come across this blog and save my hands’ lives….
Oh, and it hurts when it turns this way. Not a sharp pain, but an aching pain as if to say “Ouch! It hurts when my skins folds up on itself into deep crevasses and pretends it is those little Silica Gel packets in the toe of your new pair of shoes you just bought!”…
…Yeah, I may have issues…

my thought is that you should stop thinking about it and go see a dr. a.s.a.p. If it IS something, you don’t want it to spread!
i suppose it could be some kind of a parasitic infection as well….living there, who knows?
Wow, that’s creepy! I guess you could stop doing dishes but not the showering….I vote with Bette, when in doubt get it checked out!
I was on a 3 month trip to Thailand last summer and toward the middle-end of travelling all over, I had a mild allergic reaction where my hands would get itchy and puffy after using sink/shower water. Looking back I think it may have had something to do with the cheap soap (or even hand lotion!) I had bought at Big C. Maybe try some new, higher quality soap? This is kind of gross. I’m trying to avoid looking at the photo too closely. Anyway, hope you get better, and if you don’t, go to Bumrungrad.
For what it’s worth, this has happened to me off and on for over ten years. The EXACT symptoms will come for several months when my hands get wet. And then suddenly, it stops happening. ??? Never figured it out. I think it’s something your/our hands are exposed to. Needless to say, your hands won’t fall off. It’s just annoying.
